Grow your volunteer base

Are you challenged by uninspired volunteers—people who believe in your mission but don’t put in the time to make things happen?  Asking them to help create a strategic plan might get you “buy in” but not real commitment.  In dealing with volunteers, I start by asking about what they value—why are they volunteering in the first place?

When volunteer passions become the framework for a strategic plan, projects ultimately develop that fulfill not only your organizational purpose but also the volunteers personal need for community service.  And when volunteers deeply connect with each other, they become a real team committed not just to the work but to each other.  When volunteer work fulfills our need for service and belonging, it becomes fun and inescapable.
